Base point

All project drawings use a common origin and rotation based on the project survey. When referencing one drawing into another, use 0,0 as the insertion point.

X-ref file Path Type

When referencing drawings set the Path type option to Full path. This will maintain the connection to the referenced drawing even if the host drawing is moved.

Reference type

Select the Overlay option under the Reference Type when referencing drawings. If the Attachment option is used, the referenced drawing will be nested into the host drawing when the host drawing is referenced into other drawings.

Let’s look at an example: Say you reference the topo drawing into the site drawing as an attachment. Now say you reference the site drawing into a sheet drawing. Since the topo was referenced into the site as an attachment, it will also be referenced into the sheet, but will be dependent on the site drawing; unloading or detaching the site drawing will unload or detach the topo.

X-ref layer

Place x-references on the “Xref” layer which is locked. If needed, suffixes can be added to the Xref layer if separation is desired.
